The information & images on this page are for the MK I model but we now have the Mk II model available for sale. For some reason the speakers got to us before any information was made available. In fact, Australia is the first country in the world to have the Reference Premier II range of speakers available for sale. As soon as we have new information and images to hand we will update this page.
About Klipsch RP-600M Speakers
The Klipsch RP-600M is an amazing compact speaker capable of extremely high output with little or no distortion. As per the Klipsch tradition, they are very efficient. A good quality 60 Watt per channel amplifier will make front row "concert-like" sound levels. Their strength is in the clean crisp highs and mid bass punch, with a nice low frequency presence.
This affordably-priced bookshelf speaker model is another stand-out in Klipsch's Reference Premiere Series. They boast a single 165mm (6.5") woofer - cones made out of specially treated aluminium that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion - plus Klipsch's signature 25mm (1") titanium dome horn tweeter for crisp, extended, highs.
With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave these woofers a newly developed titanium voice coil former that allows more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response. Look around the back, and you'll see that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion. They can handle up to 100 Watts RMS and 400 Watts of peak power although remember these figures are the maximum and must be delivered without any distortion!
90°x 90° Silicon Composite Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilises a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed moulded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.
Horn loading maximizes efficiently and increases detail while focusing high frequencies towards the listening area. Proprietary Tractrix® geometry provides the most efficient transfer of high frequency waves into the listening area. The phase plug and compressed molded silicon face ensure smooth frequency response.
Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) Titanium Diaphragm Tweeters: Behind the Tractrix Horn lies a 25mm (1") titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimises distortion for enhanced, detailed performance. The new vented tweeter housing reduces standing waves that create unwanted harmonics, resulting in enhanced detail and clarity in high frequency reproduction.
Cerametallic Woofers: The woofers of the RP-600M bookshelf/standmount loudspeaker features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-coloured Cerametallic material. Made with an anodised aluminium, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodising process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability. When paired with the Tractrix horn-loaded LTS tweeter, it provides the highest speaker efficiency in its class.
Crossover Network: The speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.
Bass Reflex MDF Enclosure: The RP-600M employs a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing Tractrix port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. Utilising Tractrix geometry, the all new Reference Premiere bass port allows for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet for a clean, powerful low frequency response. The ported enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a premium wood-grain polymer veneer and a polymer front baffle. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimise panel vibrations that can colour sound.
Binding Post Terminals: This bookshelf speaker offers dual binding post terminals. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the main channel of the speakers. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs, spade-connectors and bare wire.
Stands: The RP-600M is a compact speaker and is designed to be located on appropriate speakers stands (600mm - 700mm high) or on a bookshelf - and preferably with some type of "isolation" accessories to minimise resonance. No speaker in this category is designed to sit on the floor.
Our Take On Klipsch RP-600M Speakers
Klipsch speakers deliver a dynamic and fast sound which is nothing less than impressive whether playing music or movies. Bi-amped they "rock" even more. If you demand huge performance from a very small speaker, good luck finding anything that will top these, regardless of price point. When coupled with even a compact subwoofer, you get amazing full soundstage experience, even in a medium to large room. With a good sub from either Klipsch or SVS you will probably have more than enough foundation shaking bass to "tick off the family."
But there is another big story to tell and that is the subject of sensitivity or speaker efficiency. Most speakers are about 90dB efficiency and in stereo mode and with a modest approach to the volume control does not present any problem for any good amplifier. However combine more speakers with more volume and average efficiency speakers (say 90dB) and your amplifier will run quite hot and go into clipping - a type of distortion. One solution is to buy a bigger amplifier for your speakers and that is definitely one path. Another solution is to invest in a pair of speakers like the Klipsch RP-600M. These speakers are a very efficient 96dB which means you can easily run them with half the power of most other speakers. A good 50 to 60 Watt amplifier would be perfect.
